Kilpatrick to Dumbarton via The Slacks and Lang Craigs

Climbing from Old Kilpatrick we had extensive views down the Clyde
A much pleasanter view of the Erskine Bridge than that experienced by drivers
We had our morning tea break just below the summit of The Slacks
At 365m this was the highest point on our walk.
Despite the poor weather we had a good view from The Slacks
Here we see Greenside Reservoir with Cochno Loch beyond and in the far distance Earl’s Seat

Descending from the Lang Craigs we had a clear view of Dumbarton and Dumbarton Rock
The autumn colours enhanced the appearance of the disused hydro-scheme reservoir in the grounds of Overton House
This was a very early, about 1892, hydro scheme and produced power for domestic use in the house. The reservoir also “doubled up” as an ornamental lily pond. The ruined turbine house, below Spardie Linn, could still be seen in 1980s.
As we followed the Overtoun Burn through the glen below Overtoun House the fallen leaves enhanced the view
