The walk began on a well‑made track to the bridge over the Allt Gleann Auchreoch, but beyond it the path deteriorated into a muddy, boggy, eroded mess, with swampy sections ready to swallow the unwary
Higher up, the swampy ground finally relented, offering marginally firmer footing — but the path stayed muddy and seriously eroded throughout
After an uninterrupted 700 m ascent we reached the level ground at the foot of Beinn Dubhchraig
To reach Ben Oss we first had to tackle a steep 120 m drop. Glen Cononish lay to the right and Loch Oss to the left, offering superb views whenever you dared look up from the uneven ground
After four and a half hours on the hill, we finally stood on the summit of Ben Oss, pausing for a group photo and lunch with Ben Lui forming a superb backdrop
We began our descent into Coire Garbh after lunch, rewarded with a sweeping view of Loch Lomond and, far beyond it, the distant shape of Ben Lomond
During the descent we gained a clear view of Loch Oss, with Beinn Dubhchraig rising ahead as our next summit
The final summit of the day was Beinn Dubhchraig
