Initially our route was through mixed deciduous woodland
Later, as we approached the river, we were confronted with tall grasses
Our first view of the causeway
This was built to facilitate construction of the Lang Dyke together with several beacons defining the southern edge of the navigable channel in the River Clyde

The Lang Dyke is a long artificial jetty constructed to scour out a deeper channel in the River Clyde by the 18th century engineer, John Golborne.

Since construction of the Lang Dyke the original wooden beacons have been replaced by more substantial stone structures
