The walk started from Drumfrochar railway station, up a steep hill with views over Greenock to Helensburgh
The passenger cruise liner Majestic Princess can be seen moored at Greenock
After the steep climb we had a long level walk along the Greenock Cut
The Greenock Cut was designed by Robert Thom and built between 1825 and 1827 to supply power and fresh water to the increasing industries and population of Greenock. The Cut supplied drinking water to Greenock until as late as 1971 when a pipeline was installed. In 1972 the Cut was designated as a scheduled historic monument.
The Cut contoured round Dunrod Hill, which we have climbed on many previous walks
Halfway along our walk we reached the Loch Thom Compensation Reservoir outside the visitor centre
A reassuring signpost telling us we were halfway along our 19 km walk and about to join the Kelly Cut
The Kelly Cut like the Greenock Cut was easy comfortable walking but less well maintained and very muddy in places
At the end of the Kelly Cut we walked down Kelly Glen into Wemyss Bay
